Eid Mubarak Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Fitri

I hope it's not too late to wish everyone Selamat Hari Ray or Eid Mubarak as yesterday was the Aidil Fitri. It marks the completion of the month of Ramadhan for muslims all over the world. Hari Raya Aidil Fitri is a big festive season in Malaysia as well as in Terengganu. Everyone is in the festive mood. Its a time of joy when families come together to celebrate Aidilfitri together.

The festive season is felt on the eve of raya itself when kids play fireworks. City dwellers will go back to their villagers to celebrate the AidilFitri with their family. On the morning of Raya, muslims will go to the mosque to perform the Solat Aidil Fitri. Then they'll gather for breakfast and ask for forgiveness from each other. Some might go to the grave to recite the Yasin and say a prayer (doa) for  those who have passed away. The rest of the day is spent visiting family and friends.

If most states within Malaysia serves Rendang and ketupat for Raya, it is a little bit differant in Terengganu. In Terengganu, nasi dagang and fish curry is served especially for Aidil Fitri. Some may also serve lemang, nasi minyak with rendang and ayam masak merah. Cookies and Raya crisps of all colors and shapes are neatly laid out in jar bottles on the table. Children wait in anticipation for duit raya or little money packages given by elders.

So if you want to experience a differance in Hari Raya celebration, come over to Terengganu. For those who go back to the kampung in the east coast, why not stop over in Terengganu on your way back to the city and have a short holiday on the beach.
